Constru Casa is an initiative of Caroline van Heerde. In March 2004, she started with the design and organization of Constru Casa and constructed the very first houses together with a local day care center for very poor families. In 2005 her initiative gained momentum, the quality of the services of Constru Casa improved, and progress was made to transform Constru Casa into a financially healthy organization. Since November 2005, Constru Casa is an officially registered foundation in Guatemala: Asociación Constru Casa.

In 2007, Constru Casa was registered at the Congressional District Programs (CDP) 501(c)(3), an American public charity that financially supports projects all over the world. This was a big step for Constru Casa as through CDP donations from the US are now tax-deductible.

As a further milestone in the history of Constru Casa, in March 2009 the completion of the construction of the 300th Constru Casa house in Guatemala was celebrated in the presence of the Dutch ambassador, representatives of our social partner organizations, the construction workers, and supporters and friends.
